This post is information about the valuable amulet " The Hamsa Hand"
The hamsa hand also known as hamesh hand is an Arabian and Hebrew amulet for magical protection from the "evil eye". hamsa or hamesh means "five" referring to the amount of fingers on the hand. The amulet is often pointed down or up. The Islamic name for it is the Hand of Fatima which is the daughter of Mohammed. The eye is often located in the palm of the hamsa/hamesh hand.
One of it's attributes is the fact it has two thumbs that are symmetrical. There is good archaeological evidence that suggests that the down pointed hamsa hand predates Islam and it refers to the Middle Easten goddess that warded off the "Evil Eye". The material is pewter and came from the Arabian origin. Now there are many such as the early 20th century French hamsa hand.
